Scanning & your library

How do I get a clean scan?

Use even lighting, avoid glare, and place the card on a contrasting background with all four edges visible. Import a photo or open the camera, then verify the detected outer corners before continuing. Perspective correction does not remove blur, glare, lens distortion, or bends.

What if the detected corners are wrong?

Drag the corner handles to the physical outer edges of the card. Use magnified editing and fine adjustments to refine their positions, or reset and try again. The outer card outline is different from the printed artwork border used for centering.

Do I have to scan both sides?

No. After aligning the front, you can add and align the back or choose Skip, Front Only. Both sides can be stored with the same card. An unscanned side remains unassessed.

Where are my photos and saved cards?

Originals, corrected images, measurements, and inspections are kept in CardGrader’s storage on your iPhone. Original photos are not overwritten. Your device backup settings may include app data. Deleting the app deletes its local library; keep your own copies of important originals.

Does it work without internet or an account?

No account is required. Scanning, alignment, centering, inspection, and your local library work offline. Optional card and price lookup, Google advertising and privacy forms, and App Store purchase or restore operations use internet services. An unavailable ad never blocks the tools.

Centering & provisional estimates

How is centering measured?

Centering uses separate guides for the physical card edges and printed borders. Check and adjust all guides, including any suggested printed-border positions. The app calculates left/right and top/bottom proportions. Borderless, full-art, and ambiguous designs may not support a reliable printed-border measurement.

Do corner and edge inputs affect the vendor estimates?

Yes, when the required centering measurements and all corner and edge inspections for scanned sides are complete. The provisional estimate takes the lower of the vendor centering comparison and your corner and edge scores across scanned sides, with conservative rounding. This is an app rule, not a PSA, BGS, CGC, or TAG formula. Until the inputs are complete, the app asks you to finish the assessment.

Why is this not a professional grade?

Photos and manual markings cannot reveal everything seen during a professional physical inspection. Surface condition is not graded by the app, and unscanned sides remain unassessed. Estimates are unofficial and may differ from a professional grade; they do not authenticate a card or establish its value.

How do I switch between light and dark mode?

Open Settings and find Appearance, just above About. Choose System to follow your iPhone, Day for light mode, or Night for dark mode. Camera and precision-adjustment workspaces remain dark for photo visibility.

Card identification & prices

What if the wrong card is identified?

Use Change in the Card details section, then search with the name, set, or card number. On Review, card identification is below the card name field. Expand the card’s details using the arrow to see price information and links. Lookup can be turned off in Settings.

Are market prices guaranteed or live offers?

No. Prices come from third-party sources and can be missing, delayed, or inaccurate. Links to graded prices and sold listings open third-party sites. Prices are informational, not an appraisal, financial advice, or an offer to buy or sell.

Ads & lifetime Remove Ads

Where do advertisements appear?

Compact banners appear at the end of browsing and Review pages and scroll with the content. A preloaded interstitial may appear before a new card’s first Review, after front/back alignment or skipping the back, and after every third successfully saved new card. There is no five-minute cooldown or session cap, but action spacing, consent, availability, and an ad-free entitlement can suppress a placement. Returning from a tool to the same Review does not trigger another pre-Review ad.

Are any tools behind a paywall?

No. Scanning, alignment, centering, inspection, and library tools remain free. Lifetime Remove Ads is an optional one-time non-consumable purchase that removes banner and interstitial advertising. It is not a subscription. Apple shows the applicable localized price before purchase.

How do I restore Remove Ads?

In Settings, open Advertisements & Support and select Restore Purchases. Use the Apple Account associated with the original eligible purchase and an internet connection. Pending purchases require approval before ad-free access activates. If a restore fails, check your connection and Apple Account, then try again. Verified existing access works offline.

Where can I change advertising privacy choices?

Where Google requires or offers privacy choices, use Advertising Privacy Choices in Settings → Advertisements & Support. A consent form may also appear when you first use the app. Non-personalized advertising can still process network and device information; see the privacy policy.
